P2019.04 – Photo contest

What

Photo contest for teenagers. The theme is Street action, and is open for participants 18 years old or less. Another condition is the photos to be taken with a cellphone, smartphone or a tablet – cameras are not allowed.

Program start: 1.03.2019

Program end: 1.12.2019

Why

To make participants think before taking photos with a smartphone. To show them that if made well, these photos may win them prize and give results and appreciation. To make them look in the world around them with a different eyes – the eyes of a photographer.

Goals

1. 500 photos submitted
2. 200 participants involved (18 years old or less)
3. 20000 people online reach.

Impact

Participating in a photo contest by using only smartphones will motivate the participants to focus on their imagination, to develop creative thinking, disregarding the limits of the smartphone cameras. It is more important to catch the moment and see something which the others cannot, rather than using expensive camera. Another point is to make the participants use their smartphones in a constructive way and may be someone will find its inspiration in photography. And of course – beautiful works will be available for the grown ups to see that their kids can make miracles thanks to their unique point of view through the smartphone camera and they daily life.

Approach

Starting from 1.03.2019 and ending in 1.12.2019, a 9 month period for receiving photos is given. Each participant may upload no more than 5 photos.

The photos are evaluated by a jury of 3 professional photographers by taking in consideration the following criteria: Quality, Meets the topic, Framing/shot, Catch the moment, Originality and Personal score.

The program will be managed by volunteers from different companies and businesses, with the idea to work together with the trappers in promoting the program and achieving its goals.

Repeating Facebook event will be created containing information on the progress and achieved goals. A photo gallery will be created with the submitted photos.

A photo exhibition and presentation of the results will be held on TRAP fest 2019 in December.

For motivation there will be prizes for the first 3 winners.

For every photo submitted 1 point for TRAP membership card will be given.

Volunteer opportunities

The following volunteer opportunities are present:

1. Spread the word – share the event, attract new participants and students
2. PR activity and contact with media and other organizations.
3. Prepare informational materials and articles about the program.
4. Help us writing the reports, collect photos and information and manage the Facebook event and website materials throughout the whole program.

Additional information

Having already conducted successfully this program in 2017, Trotoara continues to deliver it again in 2019. More than 100 photos were submitted during its first run, and now we hope to receive 5 times more. The contest and the following exhibition were a great way to inspire the kids in doing something creative and interesting to them. Also, it trained them to focus and have a  goal when taking picture – and of course use their smartphones constructively and in a creative way.

In addition, the exhibition helped us reach potential new sponsors and increase the TRAP community of volunteers, trappers and members.
